Senator Kissel Announces $25,000 Grant from James M. Cox Foundation for Enfield Loaves & Fishes

Grant represents second donation presented to local soup kitchen from Cox Foundation

MANCHESTER — February 25, 2021 — With the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic being felt by Connecticut families and individuals, local food distribution facilities continue to see strong demand from area residentsThat’s why Senator John A. Kissel is proud to announce today that Enfield Loaves & Fishes, a local soup kitchen providing hospitality to those in need, will benefit from a second $25,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation.

The James M. Cox Foundation is the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises and the parent company of Cox Communications and Cox Automotive. In response to the growing strain on feeding the community, the foundation announced a $25,000 donation to support people in need where Cox lives and works earlier this year, with similar grants allocated to Wethersfield Food and Clothing Bank and Cheshire Community Food Pantry.

“Enfield, like so many other Connecticut communities, relies on local food pantries and distribution facilities to help keep our neighbors in need fed and healthy,” said Senator Kissel. “The monumental efforts of Enfield Loaves and Fishes, coupled with this generous second donation from the James M. Cox Foundation, means that meals will continue to be served to anyone who seeks nourishment at a time when the pandemic and winter season create additional challenges.”

Enfield Loaves & Fishes has steadfastly addressed the increased demand for food assistance as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency and has continued to see record high demand throughout the fall and winter seasons.

“In a year like no other, this support from the James M. Cox Foundation and Senator Kissel has made it possible to address the challenges our friends and neighbors are facing by providing them with nutritious and fresh meals,” said Priscilla Brayson, director of Enfield Loaves & Fishes. “Establishments like ours take on new significance in emergencies, and with it comes new burdens. We are grateful to have partners looking out for us while we look out for the community.”
