WATCH: Senator Paul Formica (R-20) speaks on the Senate Floor in support of Utility Reform

Senator Paul Formica (R-20) offers the following on H.B. 7006 on Utility reform at the October 1, 2020 Special Session:

“As the Ranking Member of the Energy and Technology Committee, I spoke today in support of HB 7006 because it lays the groundwork to begin enacting some real reform when it comes to Connecticut’s electric providers and public utilities,” said Sen. Formica.

As passed today unanimously by the Senate, H.B. 7006

  • Introduces performance-based regulations on electric distribution companies to tie rates to the reliability and quality of the services provided
  • Increases the civil penalty for a lack of performance in an emergency event
  • Establishes programs for residential customer credits for bills for time without power and a program to reimburse for spoiled food and medication
  • Will improve communication with municipalities and improve resilience of Connecticut’s system.

“Criticism of the utilities is not a reflection on the hardworking men and women on the front-lines who worked tirelessly to restore power.  This is about executive-level mismanagement and losing sight of the what consumers need: communication, reliability and a worthwhile return on their investment,” said Sen. Formica.
