October 27, 2020

HARTFORD,  CT – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) is pleased to announce he has been named a Legislative Champion by the Radiological Society of Connecticut.

“Senator Witkos has been a strong and tenacious advocate for programs that provide help to women who need assistance with their annual mammograms.  We appreciate his work on this issue and believe that lives will be saved as more women have the important imaging test” said Michael Crain, MD, President of the Radiological Society of Connecticut.

“I am greatly appreciative to the Radiological Society of Connecticut for recognizing my efforts at supporting and advocating for legislation impacting breast cancer awareness and access to healthcare.  These matters impact nearly every person in Connecticut in one way or another and I will always strive to make these issues a priority” said Senator Witkos.

In 2019, Senator Witkos voted in support of House Bill 6522 An Act Concerning Continuing Medical Education in Screening for Inflammatory Breast Cancer and Gastrointestinal Cancers which aimed to heighten awareness and education about certain rare cancers to increase the changes of early diagnosis and Senate Bill 394 which established a council to inform the General Assembly on matters relating to public health and insurance to ensure all women have needed access to healthcare.  In addition, Senator Witkos co-introduced a bipartisan proposal to prohibit certain health insurance policies from imposing copayments for ultrasound breast cancer screenings of dense breast tissue.
