West Stafford Fire Department Awarded FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Funds; Sen. Champagne Comments on Increased Safety of Community

August 27, 2020

On August 25, the West Stafford Fire Department announced that it was selected for an $85,700 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for the purchase of extrication equipment. After a competitive bidding process, the department will now be able to modernize its current extrication equipment supply that includes some tools dating back to the 1970s. The department plans to upgrade the cutters, spreaders and rams on several of its trucks with these grant funds.

Sen. Champagne said, “This funding will provide the modern equipment that our firemen and women need to do their jobs to the best of their ability. The hope is that this equipment, used in the most dire of circumstances, won’t have to be used at all. When it is, however, these men and women will have modern equipment that will give them the best chance to save a life, keeping us safer. We’re all thankful for the work that Chief Lorenzetti and his dedicated team do for us.”
