Senator Witkos Joins Senate Republicans to Urge Gov. Lamont to Reverse Policy Precluding Certain Nonprofits from Receiving Coronavirus Relief Funds

July 30, 2020

Hartford, CT – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) has joined calls for Governor Lamont to reverse a recent decision which precludes non profit organizations who have received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan from receiving coronavirus relief funds.

“Over the past several months, non profit organizations who serve some of the most vulnerable in our communities have stepped up to the plate to ensure that their clientele have continued to receive these vital services.  To now be informed by the administration that they will not be eligible to receive these funds if they’ve received this loan from the federal government is a slap in the face” said Senator Witkos.

“Throughout the pandemic, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with many nonprofits from across the district and the concerns echoed by nearly every agency was the same – they need our support.  From agencies focusing on domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, the intellectual and developmentally disabled community, and more, they are all facing similar challenges brought upon by the pandemic and these funds could truly be the difference between  their continued existence and closing their doors” Senator Witkos added

The Senate Republican caucus has sent a letter to Governor Lamont outlining their request that he reconsider this determination.  A full copy of the letter can be found here:  Non profit letter 7.30.20
