Listening Session on Police Accountability Bill – How to Submit Testimony

Many of you have reached out about the draft bill now being considered by the state legislature addressing police accountability.

The CT General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee has just announced that a virtual listening session on the proposed bill will take place on Friday, July 17, 2020.

Here’s how you can share your thoughts on the proposal and make your voice heard.

 

Submit Written Testimony:

1. Send an email to [email protected] with your thoughts on the issue prior to the hearing.

2. Put “Testimony on Draft LCO #3471” in the subject line.

3. Include your name and town.

4. You can also watch the session live or on-demand on Connecticut Network TV or CT-N.com on Friday. The session will start at 10 am and end no later than 10 pm.

 

Testify Before the Judiciary Committee Virtually:

1. Those who would like to testify virtually must register to testify ASAP using the Online Testimony Registration Link. Registration will CLOSE on Thursday, July 16 at 6:00 pm.

2. If you do not have access to the Online Testimony Registration Link, you may leave a message requesting to testify virtually on the Dedicated Phone Registrant Line: 860.240.5255.

3. Speaker order will be listed in a randomized order from the approved registrants and available on the Judiciary Committee’s website.

4. Speakers will testify virtually via Zoom and will be strictly limited to 3 minutes of testimony. The bell will ring at the 2:45 minute point signifying the speaker to conclude their testimony.

5. The Committee is encouraging written testimony.
