Senator Witkos Calls for Greater Involvement of Local Health Departments in Re-Opening Plans

May 12, 2020

Hartford, CT – State Senator Kevin Witkos recently called upon Governor Lamont to include the expertise of local health departments in the Re-Open Connecticut Advisory Group. Members of this group were appointed by Governor Lamont to guide and formulate plans on a re-opening plan for the state of Connecticut.

“While this group includes many members of various backgrounds and industries, the lack of local health department representation is troubling. Our local health departments are often the first line of communication to restaurants, salons, barbershops, and other businesses that are being directly impacted by the various guidance and orders being issued. It is vital that our local health departments have a voice at the table if they will be responsible for disseminating information and working with our local businesses to ensure that proper guidelines are being followed” said Senator Witkos.

“Connecticut is fortunate to have many regional and single town health districts whose staff work tirelessly to support our residents and business community. Their insight of how various edicts will be felt by businesses and how they may be enforced is unmatched and I urge your consideration of this request. Their input can be hugely helpful to the advisory group” the Senator added.
