Sen. Sampson on the 2020 Primary Postponement

March 19, 2020

Today Senator Rob Sampson (R-16) reacted to the Governor’s announcement that the 2020 Primary would be postponed.

“An important event that has been impacted by the arrival and spread of COVID-19 in Connecticut is the upcoming Presidential Preference Primary set by statute for April 28, 2020.  A number of proposals have been put forward to administer this statewide election while being sensitive to slowing the spread of the virus and protecting those most at risk.

“I am very pleased that the Governor chose the most appropriate option of delaying the election, allowing time for this health crisis to unfold.  As the Government Administration and Elections Committee Ranking Member, I remain committed to enabling Connecticut citizens’ right to participate in elections while preserving the integrity of our elections system.

“This was the right decision to make.”

Senator Rob Sampson serves the 16th senatorial district which includes the towns of Cheshire, Prospect, Southington, Waterbury and Wolcott.
