Sen. Kelly, Reps. Perillo & McGorty Host Pre-Session Office Hour in Shelton

January 20, 2020

State Representative Jason Perillo and State Senator Kevin Kelly met with residents on Tuesday at the Shelton Senior Center to discuss the upcoming 2020 Legislative session, which starts on Wednesday, February 5th.

Sen. Kelly said, “This year we will continue fighting against damaging policies and proposing solutions to move Connecticut forward. I remain highly focused on growing jobs, increasing access to affordable health care, enhancing care for women and seniors specifically, and improving transportation without asking taxpayers to shoulder more financial burdens like tolls. I want to thank everyone who came out to share their perspectives and ideas and look forward to continued conversations throughout the legislative session.”

“Tolls and Connecticut’s fiscal challenges will be the main topics we are discussing in 2020,” said Rep. Perillo. “Governor Ned Lamont and Democratic lawmakers only solution to many of Connecticut’s problems is to tax residents more and more. It is unfortunate that the majority party Democrats can’t work with us to find common-sense ways to move our state forward. Ruling the state by themselves hasn’t worked and will continue to lead Connecticut down the wrong road.”

The lawmakers handed out the 2020 Major Issues Report drafted by the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Research (OLR). In the report, OLR highlights a variety of issues that could come up during the 2020 legislative session.

Reps. Perillo, McGorty and Sen. Kelly will be fighting against the implementation of tolls and are concerned that the majority party is preparing to increase state government fees by $50 million.
