Hartford, CT — Through the State Library Construction Grant, Weston will receive over $82,500 to remodel its children’s room, add new energy conservation resources, and better adhere to code compliance.

“I love our libraries! The Weston Public Library plays a vital role in being Weston’s community center and as an invaluable treasure in educating the next generation through its children’s room,” said Senator Tony Hwang. “I also want to commend the town of Weston, Weston Library Director Karen Tatarka, its Public Library Board members, our entire bipartisan state delegation and the countless volunteers for working together to secure the much needed funds toward final completion of this long overdue library renovation project.

Weston Library Director Karen Tatarka added, “The Weston Library is thankful for Senator Hwang and the bipartisan state delegation’s support throughout the State Library Construction Grant process. The children’s department is the most rapidly growing department in the library, and the community has been greatly anticipating the creation of a flexible, modern space. With the guidance of Children’s and Young Adult Librarian Alessandra Petrino, we are excited to re-invent the space to suit the wide range of educational, technological, and social needs of today’s library user.”

As part of this grant, the library will be able to remediate asbestos in window caulk, install new energy efficient windows and upgrade fluorescent lights to more energy efficient LED lights creating a brighter and more hospitable setting to enjoy the wide range of library services.

The library can now remodel the children’s library to create an environmentally safe and motivating and creative setting.  The updated technological changes, with complimenting and collaborative, educational and play spaces will enhance the social emotional and educational learning experience for Weston’s families and their children.
