Seymour Lawmakers Applaud DEEP’s Choice of Vineyard Wind, a Partner of the Kerite Company in Seymour, to Build Offshore Wind Project

State Senator Eric Berthel (R-32), State Senator Kevin Kelly (R-21), and State Representative Nicole Klarides-Ditiria (R-105) today celebrated DEEP’s selection of Vineyard Wind to begin contract negotiations with the state’s electric distributers to provide power through its development of the Park City Wind Project using cables manufactured by the Kerite Company located in Seymour.

In October, Vineyard Wind partnered with Marmon Utility, owners of the Kerite Company of Seymour, which will produce the underwater cables to transmit the power from the offshore windfarm.

“Today is a great day for Connecticut’s manufacturing,” said Sen. Berthel. “I applaud DEEP for making this decision which we all hope will lead to good paying jobs for residents of Seymour and surrounding towns. This project will send a message that our state is on the cutting edge of next-generation manufacturing.”

“This is a great opportunity for a local manufacturer to grow jobs and innovate right here in Connecticut,” said Sen. Kelly. “Our state is home to a talented workforce who produce top notch products in many industries. It is good to see this hard work and quality recognized. I hope that this partnership will lead to many new Connecticut jobs and continued growth.”

“This is good news for our entire region,” said Rep. Klarides-Ditria. “Vineyard Wind will create new jobs and help boost our economy by partnering with local manufacturers like Kerite in Seymour. We need to continue to focus on clean energy and manufacturing industries to create more good-paying  jobs in Connecticut.”
