Senator Witkos Hails State Bond Commission Vote To Fund STEAP

December 18, 2019

Hartford, CT – Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) has welcomed the vote of the State Bond Commission to fund the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP).

The program, administered by the Office of Policy & Management is intended to fund economic development, community conservation, and quality of life capital projects for localities that are ineligible for Urban Action bonds.  The program last funded projects in 2016.

As a member of the State Bond Commission, Senator Witkos has repeatedly raised the issue of funding this program at previous meetings throughout the past year.  He voted in favor of the agenda item at the meeting held today, December 18th

“Small towns across the 8th Senate District and across our state rely on these funding streams to fund important and necessary projects and I am pleased that the administration has made this funding available.  Many small towns in Connecticut are not eligible for various other sources of funding or grant opportunities due to low population or other disqualifying factors and STEAP is a vital tool that can be used to support our municipalities”
