Insurance Committee Leaders to Host Forum on Reducing Health Care Costs

The leaders of the CT General Assembly’s Insurance & Real Estate Committee, including Senator Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford), Representative Sean Scanlon (D-Guilford), Senator Matt Lesser (D-Middletown) and Representative Cara Pavalock-D’Amato (R-Bristol), are hosting an informational forum to further explore three proposals to lower the costs of health care in Connecticut. The forum will include panel discussions with health care advocates and stakeholders. Details below.

 

WHO: Insurance Committee leaders, the Office of Health Strategy, health care advocates, state officials, health insurers, the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission and other stakeholders

WHAT: Informational forum/panel discussion on three major policy concepts:

  • A state-funded reinsurance program
  • Health care cost growth benchmarking, similar to what has been implemented in Massachusetts
  • Prescription drug importation

WHY: The high cost of health care is one of the most significant issues impacting daily life for Connecticut residents. This forum seeks to advance the dialogue with health care stakeholders before the next legislative session begins to ensure the legislature remains focused on reducing the costs of health care.
