State Senator Eric Berthel Appointed as an Education Commission of the States Commissioner

Hartford—State Senator Eric Berthel (R-Watertown) has been named by Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano as a Commissioner for the Education Commission of the States.

Education Commission of the States serves as a partner to state policymakers and education leaders by providing personalized support, unbiased information and opportunities for collaboration. Through our programs and services, education leaders gain the trusted insight and experience needed to create more effective education policy. We are non-partisan and we serve policymakers in all 50 states.

“I am honored to have been appointed by Sen Fasano to serve as a State Commissioner to the Education Commission of the States,” said Sen. Berthel. “As a ranking member of the Legislative Education Committee, I remain committed to ensuring that we provide the best quality education and the best opportunities for all of our students. This appointment will provide access to colleagues across the country and the many resources of the Commission.”

As a Commissioner Senator Berthel will play an active role in facilitating two-way communication between your state and Education Commission of the States. Part of his task will be to:

  • Assist in identifying and sharing key state policy issues with Education Commission of the States.
  • Share Education Commission of the States’ resources with colleagues to increase awareness of Education Commission of the States’ research, reports, counsel and convenings.
  • Encourage collaboration and engagement among fellow Commissioners in your state.
  • Attend and participate in Commissioners business sessions held twice a year during the National Forum on Education Policy in July, and the Winter Commissioners Meeting in early December.
