Senator Witkos Tours Torrington Opportunity Zone

July 8, 2019

Senator Witkos (R-Canton) recently met with  Mayor Elinor Carbone to tour the Opportunity Zone located in Torrington and discuss the potential for redevelopment in that area.   Per the CT Department of Economic & Community Development “Opportunity Zones in Connecticut are created to attract private investment to improve economic growth, community wealth, business development, housing opportunities and infrastructure while creating significant jobs in the most challenged but promising areas of Connecticut. Connecticut’s Opportunity Zones typically present vibrant downtowns, robust transit options, robust housing demand, and a growing and diverse private sector of entrepreneurs and innovative companies. Connecticut is confident that our Opportunity Zones will be appealing to a wide range of investors.”

“I am very excited at the potential for growth and economic development as a result of the Opportunity Zone in Torrington.  This presents a great opportunity for new investment for our local and state economy.  I look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Carbone and her team in Torrington and with our partners in the Department of Economic & Community Development to support these efforts”  said Senator Witkos.
