State Senator Tony Hwang Celebrates and Honors Fairfield Prep Hockey State Championship
May 4, 2019On May 3rd, Fairfield Prep gathered to celebrate the Jesuits Boys Hockey Team’s second consecutive state championship victory, their 17th Division 1 championship. Senator Hwang (R-Fairfield) joined the entire student body to celebrate their fellow students’ accomplishment along with the current spring sports teams.
“I love interacting and celebrating the success of our local high school sports teams. These student-athletes put in the effort when it comes to schoolwork and teamwork, and events like these engage the entire student body to celebrate school spirit and their fellow students.” said Hwang. “I am privileged and honored to represent Fairfield, and especially our young people accomplishing success as a team. Most importantly, they are exemplary representatives of Fairfield Prep’s commitment to excellence and education through their motto, ‘Per Fidem ad Plenam Veritatem — through Faith to the Fullness of Truth’.”
Although the Jesuits started and ended the season at the top of the GameTimeCT poll, it was a roller-coaster season. Starting with a tough loss to the Ridgefield Tigers, the Jesuits had to fight back throughout the season. Coach Matt Sather said the team was methodical about improving
their technique and their skills, which ultimately led them to a 15-9-1 season and their second state championship in as many years.
Sen. Hwang presented the team, coaches and the school administration with a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly accompanied by a special gift certificate donated by The Country Cow Deli and the Koulogianis family.
State Senator Tony Hwang represents Connecticut’s 28th senate district including the towns of Fairfield, Westport, Weston, Easton, Newtown & Sandy Hook.
