Speak out against higher taxes on seniors and retirees

March 26, 2019

Over the last few weeks, I’ve heard from many people concerned about the governor’s proposal to eliminate the new tax exemptions for Social Security and pension income that were included in the bipartisan budget passed last year.

I fought hard with my colleagues to include these tax breaks in the bipartisan budget which I believe are needed to help people afford to stay in our state after retiring.

In order for the governor to repeal these tax breaks, which are scheduled to begin in the 2019 tax year, he needs the legislature to approve his budget.

You can make a difference. If you oppose the governor’s proposal to cancel tax breaks on pension and Social Security income, you can submit testimony and reach out to other lawmakers to urge them to say NO to higher taxes on seniors and retirees.

To submit testimony:

  • Send a brief email asap to [email protected]
  • Say “NO to Senate Bill 877! NO to higher taxes on seniors and retirees!”
  • Include your name and town. Make sure to include Senate Bill 877 in the subject line.

To contact lawmakers and the governor’s office:
Governor’s Office 800-406-1527
Senate Democrats 800-842-1420
House Democrats 800-842-1902

Lawmakers approved this tax break in a bipartisan budget, and it will take a bipartisan effort to stand up to the governor and keep it in place.
