Sen. Bizzarro Urges Taxpayers, Businesses to Get Active and Oppose Toll Bills

Public Hearing is Wednesday

“Raise your voices if you don’t want this legislation to pass.”

HARTFORD – Newly sworn-in State Senator Gennaro Bizzarro is making sure area residents know about Wednesday’s public hearing on bills allowing the state to impose tolls.

Bizzarro on Tuesday said he planned to participate in an afternoon press conference at the State Capitol with Connecticut House and Senate Republicans to draw attention to two bills which will get a public hearing at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

“Bill 7202 allows the state to put tolls on Routes 84, 91, 95, and 15,” Bizzarro said.  “Another bill, Bill 7280, says that a tolling proposal submitted by the Connecticut Department of Transportation will be ‘deemed approved’ if the General Assembly does not hold a vote within 15 days.  In other words, elected officials wouldn’t even have to vote!”

Bizzaro urged taxpayers to share their thoughts with the legislature’s Transportation Committee by sending an email to [email protected] and putting “No to Bills 7202 and 7280” in the subject line.

“People need to know that tolls would not just be on the state borders, and tolls could be on allvehicles,” Bizzarro said.  “This will be a mileage tax, plain and simple.  I am urging concerned business owners and motorists to attend the hearing on Wednesday.  Toll opponents will be wearing red. It’s important to have all voices heard. Tell your friends and neighbors and co-workers.  Now is the time to raise your voices if you don’t want this legislation to pass.”

Bizzarro represents Berlin, New Britain and part of Farmington.  He can be reached at 800-842-1421 and at [email protected].  His website is www.SenatorBizzarro.com.
