Statement on Public-Private Partnership Loan Program to Assist Federal Employees
January 22, 2019Bipartisanship Separates Connecticut from Washington
Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding the Connecticut General Assembly’s expected approval of a bipartisan public-private loan program designed to aid federal workers who are not receiving paychecks during the federal government shutdown.
“Today, Connecticut Republicans and Democrats, private banks and public officials, the governor’s office and the legislature are all working together to provide relief for hard working middle class families. Federal employees are stuck in the middle of Washington partisan politics. What separates Connecticut lawmakers from Washington politicians is that here in our state Republicans and Democrats can, have and will continue to work together to reach solutions. We have shown time and again that the best way to solve problems is through a bipartisan approach. Partisanship may be creating gridlock in Washington, but it is bipartisanship that is creating movement in Connecticut. I want to again thank Governor Lamont for thinking out of the box and developing this collaborative public-private partnership alongside Connecticut’s private banks. I want to thank the business owners who have stepped up to help Connecticut residents in their time of need. And I want to thank the legislators on both sides of the aisle who are working together today because we all know that Washington partisanship does not reflect Connecticut policymaking.”
