December 24, 2018SENATOR WITKOS (R-CANTON) HAILS UCONN BOARD OF TRUSTEES TORRINGTON CAMPUS VOTE
Hartford, CT – Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) has hailed the vote taken by the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees to approve the sale of the former Torrington UConn campus property to a local arts organization, Five Points Gallery, Inc. The gallery, based in Torrington, has developed a comprehensive plan to create an arts “think tank” at the former campus to include classrooms, artist incubator space, outdoor classrooms for children and an outdoor art park.
This decision by the Board of Trustees is an important step for Five Points Gallery in their quest to create what will be a world class destination for the arts community, right here in Litchfield County. The opportunity for job growth, increased tourism, and the economic benefit to local towns is extremely exciting and I’m proud to support Five Points Gallery in their endeavor” said Senator Witkos.
Five Points Gallery, Inc. expects to generate approximately 8 new full-time positions and employ 20 part-time teachers and support staff when the project is fully developed. The organization is also in the process of creating partnerships with higher education entities and incorporating a retail aspect for art supplies at the property.
