Start Now to Support, Promote Small Business Saturday

October 11, 2018

Neighbors,

As a small business owner, I know how important local customers are to success. That’s why I want you to know about Small Business Saturday. It is an annual event that encourages people to shop at local, individual small businesses rather than big box or chain stores. It’s a chance to put your money back into the local economy and shoppers may discover a local business treasure to make a new favorite haunt. The event takes place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, that is November 24.

While this event is more than a month away, Shop Small, the organization leading the effort, announced that small business owns can go to its website now to start planning. The site provides ideas, advice, and materials to promote the day.

And this site isn’t just for small businesses. Officials, chambers of commerce, business organizations, and everyday people are invited to become Neighborhood Champions. Champions can organize community events to promote the day, rally local businesses to participate, and distribute materials to let people know how they can support their local business community.
