CT juveniles stealing vehicles: Why is this happening?

October 15, 2018

Every day, we see stories of vehicle thefts throughout Connecticut.

Quite often, the vehicles are stolen by juveniles who then lead police on a chase and endanger other motorists in the process.

Why is this happening?

Law enforcement authorities all across the state, including the Chief State’s Attorney, tell me they believe the juvenile crime wave is related to recent criminal justice ‘reforms’ which reduced the authority of Connecticut judges to deal with young criminals, particularly juveniles.

The penalty for a Connecticut juvenile who steals a car and endangers others is a mere slap on the wrist!

I have proposed changing current law governing young criminals.

I want to give judges more flexibility to deal with this problem that is plaguing our communities.

What do you think?

Should the law be changed?
