Saltwater Fishing Day Aug. 11 – Free Fishing for Children & Families in New London

August 9, 2018

DEEP Designates Saturday, August 11 as “Free Fishing License Day”

As part of the No Child Left Inside® program, the state is hosting “Free Fishing License Day” and its 7th Annual Saltwater Fishing Day on Saturday, Aug. 11. The event is hosted by DEEP in partnership with the Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) program.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants can fish at the Fort Trumbull State Park fishing pier in New London.

The state is also offering free one-day fishing licenses for August 11. Participants 16 years and older must have a fishing license.  To fish for free, anyone – resident or non-resident – can obtain a free one-day fishing license — good for both the inland and marine districts –through the DEEP online sportsmen licensing system (www.ct.gov/deep/fishing) or at any venue that sells fishing licenses.

Those who are 15 or younger do not need a fishing license but can register using the same online system to obtain a “Youth Fishing Passport.” The “Youth Fishing Passport” provides access to two fishing related activities and a list of sponsors who are offering discounts or free items to passport holders.
