Good news!

I am pleased to report that a key legislative committee has passed my Bill 414 to create a social service fund that would accept donations in exchange for a tax break.

The “Citizens in Need Fund” would be used to fund social services in the state budget.

It would also allow contributors to deduct the donations, at a rate of 200 percent, from their taxable income.

The state’s financial condition is dire.

The federal tax changes are significant in their implications.

Bill 414 addresses both of those issues at the same time.

The bill received significant bipartisan support.

It now awaits a vote by the full State Senate.
