Sen. Formica Celebrates Read Across America Day
March 5, 2018
In celebration of Read Across America Day, State Senator Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) read to a group of students at Winthrop STEM Elementary Schoolin New London on Friday, March 2.
Sen. Formica volunteered to read in partnership with the United Way which organized volunteers across southeastern Connecticut to read in local schools and donate books to school libraries.
“These kids are so smart and Winthrop is such a wonderful school. We had so much fun reading on Dr. Suess’s birthday. I can’t wait to go back!” said Sen. Formica. “Reading is an important step in helping children be successful and access opportunities throughout their entire lives. It is a constantly developing skill that builds upon what you have learned previously. Therefore, it is vital that literacy and reading comprehension are a priority for children of all ages. It was an honor to join United Way today in this effort to promote reading as a positive and fun experience.”
Read Across America Day is an annual reading motivation and awareness movement that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss.
