Sen. Boucher and Legislature Restores Medicare Funding for Seniors and Disabled

State Senator Toni Boucher (R-26) joined her legislative colleagues to pass a bipartisan fix to the state’s Medicare Savings Program (MSP). The legislation approved by the House and Senate restores Medicare income eligibility levels and provides aid for more than 100,000 seniors and disabled residents.

“I am proud that, once again, legislators on both sides of the political aisle were able to come together to take action that is in the best interest of Connecticut residents,” Sen. Boucher said. “Ensuring health care access to seniors and the disabled is a priority, and we were able to provide this funding without tax increases. I look forward to more cooperative efforts like this.

Unfortunately, Sen. Boucher said, Governor Malloy has suggested that he may veto the bill.

“This bill benefits some of Connecticut’s neediest residents. It take steps that we all acknowledge are necessary,” she said. “I can’t understand why the Governor would object to a bill that implements a number of measures he previously agreed to. I hope he reconsiders the veto option and decides to work with legislators on future budget solutions.”

To restore funding for the MSP, lawmakers adopted changes to the budget including funding reductions for executive appointments, consultant fees, and duplicative human resource functions in state government.
