“Home heating oil and propane, … which are so essential to keeping our homes warm in the winter, have been intentionally left alone by the legislature despite its hunger for revenue sources, but the (Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) has come forward and said that those services also should be subject to a fee that would supposedly go into an energy-efficiency fund. … (P)ropane and home heating oil are sold by independent dealers who have to compete in the marketplace, so those prices are kept low by competition … the state can’t fiddle with them based on what they think people can afford to pay. Putting further charges on those would be a big mistake, in my opinion.”
