Fasano Statement re: Senate Democrats’ Letter
May 1, 2017Hartford – Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement in response to a proposal by Senate Democrat leaders regarding budget negotiations.
“Today when I heard Senate Democrats were holding a press conference I thought we would be seeing a Democrat budget proposal. Given that negotiations with the governor are beginning tomorrow, and Democrats haven’t presented a full budget yet, I assumed the Democrats would want to share their ideas. Instead we got a distraction. Their request, which I just received during their press conference today, is an attempt to shift the conversation away from the severity of the budget situation and the fact that they have shown no vision and no path to turn our state around from the policies that have driven us down this road. For years while the Democrats held a complete legislative majority, when Democrats excluded Republicans from budget negotiations, Democrats were perfectly fine with the process as is. Now, at a time when Democrats’ unfettered majority is slipping away, there’s suddenly a change. This is political bravado. The people of our state don’t need more politics, they need us to focus on solving the budget crisis.”
