Harford – Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding February job losses in Connecticut:
“Under the topic of ‘C’Mon Man’ I bring you Connecticut’s weak excuse for more job losses in February. According to the state Department of Labor, the loss of 1,600 jobs can in part be attributed to weather. During the same month, however, neighboring Rhode Island managed to gain 2,200 jobs. Is the weather really that different in Rhode Island? Or is job growth based on far more significant issues in state policy? Connecticut needs to face the reality that policies passed over the last six years have not generated the growth we so need. Instead of talking about taxes, tolls and flat out rejecting proposals for structural changes that could save state employee jobs, Democrats at the Capitol should be open to change and looking at what is working in other states. In Rhode Island, for example, their pragmatic Democrat governor has done the hard work of pension reform, so it is no surprise that job creators have the confidence needed to grow. In Connecticut, we’ve seen that business as usual won’t work.”
