Senator Guglielmo – Pistol Permit Fees Outrageous

February 18, 2017

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) today released the following statement regarding Governor Malloy’s proposal to increase the state portion of the gun permit fees from $70 to $300 and the initial five-year permit from $140 to $370.

“To single out the hard-working residents, who pay their taxes and simply want to exercise their constitutional rights is unfair and unwarranted,” said Sen. Guglielmo. “The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by both the United States Constitution and our state constitution here in Connecticut.”

“A fee hike of this degree without-a-doubt serves as a limitation on those rights and is a last-ditch attempt to close a looming budget deficit,” said Sen. Guglielmo. “I am strongly opposed to this proposal – which amounts to roughly a 400 percent increase. It wrongly puts in place a financial barrier, and I am afraid that many families, who have been responsible gun owners for years, will not be able to afford this outrageous fee hike.”
