JI article: “the wrong concept at the wrong time.”
February 28, 2017Sen. Toni Boucher, R-Wilton, Senate committee co-chairwoman, was as enthusiastic in her opposition.
“I feel just as passionately against this proposal because, quite frankly, it’s very well understood that Connecticut taxes too much and this is just another tax,” she said. “We are taxing our residents to death. … This tolling scheme is just another word for tax.”
Boucher added that while estimates show that 30 percent of revenue would be paid by out-of-state drivers, the rest falls on the state’s residents, reducing the amount of money they bring home.
She called it “the wrong concept at the wrong time.”
