A Team Effort To Make Certain Ansonia Gets Treated Fairly
February 22, 2017State Sen. George Logan wrote the following letter in response to a letter from Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti.
I share Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti’s passion for making certain that Ansonia gets treated equitably by the State of Connecticut in the area of public education funding.
By now, we know that Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget proposal shortchanges Ansonia and towns across Connecticut.
The governor’s plan shifts the state’s tax burdens onto the backs of Ansonia property taxpayers. First selectmen, mayors and editorial boards have referred to it as “outrageous,” “unreasonable,” and “the worst ever.”
But the governor’s proposal is just that: A proposal.
Now, I will work with Democrat and Republican lawmakers at the State Capitol to make the necessary adjustments to protect that school funding – and protect taxpayers in the process.
I have a lot of respect for Rep. Linda Gentile, and even though we work on different sides of the political aisle, we will work together on behalf of Ansonia’s and Derby’s best interests.
This will be a team effort. This will be our mission.
In the weeks and months ahead, I will work closely with Rep. Gentile, Mayor Cassetti and local leaders throughout our region to make sure that the state budget that eventually passes is sensible, predictable, reasonable and fair.
In the meantime, I urge residents to speak out. Here’s how:
1) send an email to: [email protected] (the email may be as brief as you like)
2) copy me at [email protected]
3) put “Education Budget Cuts” in the Subject Line
4) share this information with others.
In your email message, tell state lawmakers to craft a state budget which is fair to towns, schools and taxpayers.
I urge taxpayers to contact me with any questions or comments by email at [email protected] or at 800-842-1421. Sign up for my Capitol e-alerts at www.SenatorGeorgeLogan.com
By working as a team and focusing on our common goals, we can fix what is broken in the governor’s proposal.
