National Radon Action Month: Free Radon Test Kits throughout January

January 3, 2017

The Department of Public Health will be offering free radon testing kits throughout the month of January for National Radon Action Month.

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas released in rock, soil and water. High radon concentrations can occur sporadically in all parts of Connecticut. Radon does not cause symptoms, you can’t see it or smell it, but elevated radon levels in your home could impact the health of your family.

The good news is that testing your home is easy to do and should only take a few minutes of your time. It’s as simple as opening a package, placing a radon detector in the basement or on the first floor of your home, and after two to seven days you send the detector to a lab for analysis.

During the month of January, the Department of Health is offering one free radon test kit per address to Connecticut residents.
