Linares encourages residents to attend charity game; Cromwell resident promoted; clothing donations welcome at new shed
January 17, 2017DEEP RIVER >> State Sen. Art Linares (R-33) asked local basketball fans to join him Wednesday, Jan. 18 at a fundraiser at Valley Regional High School, to benefit the school’s 2017 safe graduation committee. The basketball game between the Region 4 Revolution and the Harlem Wizards pits teachers, staff, and guest players against the internationally-known show basketball team.
Linares said, “Playing against the Wizards has been a wonderful experience and I am happy to once again participate in a fundraiser that will help provide a safe, alcohol-free graduation celebration for the school’s seniors. I’ve been working on my game, but still expect the Wizard players to run circles around me.”
The game is a family-friendly event and last year raised $7,500 for the safe graduation program. Doors open to the public at 6 p.m.; game time is 7 p.m. This event has sold out the last three years so make sure you purchase your tickets without delay. Tickets can be purchased at Celebrations in Deep River, the Wheat Market in Chester and at Olive Oyl’s in Essex, or online at www.harlemwizards.com.
“Valley Regional High School Safe Grad 2017 is very appreciative of our generous sponsors and all of the volunteers who continue to support this great cause,” said Carol Jones, 2017 Valley Safe Grad Chairperson. “Without the generous financial support from local businesses and the local communities this alcohol free ‘safe’ graduation event wouldn’t be possible. So thank you to all.”
