State’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol Activated

December 14, 2016

Today the Governor’s office announced that in anticipation of forecasted temperatures the state will be activating the Severe Cold Weather Protocol.

The Severe Cold Weather Protocol will be in effect starting Thursday, December 15, and remain in effect through Saturday morning, December 17. This is the first time the protocol has been activated this winter.

Anyone in need of shelter is urged to call 2-1-1 to find the nearest available locations.

While activated, the protocol directs staff from the state’s Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP), the Department of Social Services (DSS), the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and the Department of Housing (DOH) to coordinate with 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to ensure that the state’s most vulnerable populations are protected from the severe cold weather.
In addition to being able to call 2-1-1 over the telephone, a regularly updated list of open shelters and warming centers across the state is available online at www.211ct.org.
