We Are Now a Chamber of Equals
November 10, 2016In Historic Election, Republicans Pick Up Three New State Senate Seats,
Tie Democrats 18-18 for Balanced State Senate Makeup
For the first time in over 100 years, the Connecticut state Senate is now split evenly between Republicans and Democrats. This shift in power is historic, and is great news for the state of Connecticut which has been hurt by one party rule over the last six years.
As Connecticut Senate Republicans gained three new seats, there is no longer a majority party in the state Senate. We are now a chamber of equals. The old way of doing things is over.
With this historic balance I look forward to a completely new dynamic in the state Senate that embraces collaboration and cooperation and that equally values all ideas and perspectives. This is a defining moment for Connecticut to change the way state government operates for the better.
I want to take a moment to thank the people of Connecticut, including my fellow residents in the 34th Senate District, for placing your trust in Republican senators including me to represent our communities at the state Capitol. It is an honor and privilege to serve as your state senator and Senate Republican leader.
Thank you for putting your trust in me, and in Republican senate candidates across the state, to help lead our state in a new direction.
