Fasano: A Direct Tax on Middle and Working Class Families, Rail/Bus Fare Hikes Could Have Been Avoided

October 4, 2016

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding the state Department of Transportation’s approval of new rail and bus fare increases.

“Last week Republican lawmakers tried to extend the special legislative session to put a stop to the proposed rail and bus fare rate increases. But Connecticut Democrat lawmakers voted against taking action on behalf of the public and stifled debate on the issue. Their refusal to take action is an absolute endorsement of this direct tax increase on working and middle class families who use public transit.

“The Democrat legislative majority had an opportunity, if not the obligation, to stop this tax. Not only did they fail to act, but they refused to debate the issue, dismissing the Republican call to open session. They are solely responsible for this tax increase that is going to hurt working and middle class families – people they only attempt to protect with rhetoric, not with action.”
