Fasano: Malloy Should Take Up His Own Challenge, Release Emails at Center of FBI Probe

August 1, 2016

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) is calling on Governor Dannel P. Malloy to take up his own challenge by releasing the emails first requested by the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) as part of their investigation into the illegal usage of campaign funds for Gov. Malloy’s gubernatorial reelection campaign in 2014, the same campaign which is now being investigated by the FBI. Sen. Fasano is calling on Gov. Malloy to release these emails after Gov. Malloy challenged Donald Trump to release his emails from the last three years. Gov. Malloy offered this challenge when he appeared on the FOX News “Sunday Morning Futures” show on July 31, 2016.

“While being interview by Maria Bartiromo, Governor Malloy tried to downplay the federal grand jury investigation of his 2014 campaign as nothing more than an ‘election examination of fundraising and expenditures.’ He then went on to discuss the national Democratic Party’s leaked emails and offered a challenge to Donald Trump asking, ‘Why doesn’t Donald Trump release all of his emails for the last year or the last 2 years or the last 3 years?’ (timestamp 14:30).

“Why doesn’t Governor Malloy release his own emails like he challenged Trump to do? Why doesn’t Gov. Malloy lead by example? Gov. Malloy is still withholding his own emails and state Democratic Party emails that have not just been requested, but subpoenaed by his own state’s elections enforcement officials. In what kind of warped reality can a governor challenge someone to release emails when his own withholding of emails is currently being investigated by the feds?” said Sen. Fasano.
