Democrat Budget Leads to Thousands of Poor Children Losing Access to Day Care

May 26, 2016

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood’s announcement that, in order to live within the new state budget and comply with federal law changes, the office is scaling back eligibility for the Care4Kids subsidy which helps working poor families pay for preschool and day care. As a result, thousands of children from low-income families will lose their day care subsidy.

“Shocker – Democrats did not realize the effects of their budget before passing it. This is the same story we hear year after year. One year it’s shortsighted businesses taxes that eventually have to be tweaked, or hospital cuts that lead to reduced services for those on Medicaid. Every time the Democrats rush to create a budget behind closed doors, without the benefit of having the public review and analyze it, they are shocked by unintended consequences. This just further demonstrates that this Democrat majority should not be leading the state of Connecticut. They continue to sacrifice low-income constituents without any remorse. They are also quick to blame everyone else but their own ineptness. Connecticut deserves better.”
