Sen. Fasano Statement on Comptroller’s Deficit Estimate

March 1, 2016

Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano released the following statement regarding Comptroller Kevin Lembo’s deficit projection released today.

“I’m not surprised that the Comptroller agrees with the revenue estimates from the Office of Fiscal Analysis. It’s undeniable that we are in a very scary financial situation, created by years of failed Democrat policies. Hartford Democrats have overtaxed and overspent without so much as a glance towards how decisions one day impact our state’s future. Their refusal to acknowledge that these policies have failed for the past six years has only driven us further into a hole. We can get Connecticut back on track, but Democrat legislative leaders need to own up to the fact that their policies are part of the problem – that’s the first step in changing the trajectory of our state. We have to make long-term changes to the state budget. We have to stand up and question unrealistic spending, like UConn’s proposed contract that will further burden taxpayers and students with unreasonable raises. We have to seriously look at what our state and our families can and cannot afford. We can’t just look at the problem before us today either. We have to build a better future for generations to come. We have to budget for generations, not elections.”
