Pushing for Lower Tax Burdens

March 9, 2016

Sen. Paul Formica (pictured) on Mar. 9 testified in favor of phasing out the state’s tax on ambulatory service centers. Formica said the legislation to phase out the 6 percent tax on ambulatory surgery centers represents an opportunity to help patients, taxpayers and the health care system. Formica said the tax, which went into effect last year on Oct. 1, acts as a “double tax” on ambulatory surgery centers which already pay sales and local property taxes. Formica said phasing out the tax could prevent closures of ambulatory surgery centers, cutbacks and layoffs. Sen. Formica represents Bozrah, East Lyme, a portion of Montville, New London, Old Lyme, a portion of Old Saybrook, Salem, and Waterford. He can be reached at 800 842-1421 or at [email protected] .
