Metro North Update

March 9, 2016

This morning Joesph Giulietti, President of the Metro-North Railroad delivered an update to the Transportation Committee.

Of note he reported:

  • Train ridership is at an all-time high.
  • A 9% increase in ridership on the Danbury line.
  • Metro-North is taking positive steps to improve safety by implementing National Transportation Safety Board recommendations.
  • 9 crossings on the New Canaan and Danbury lines are being upgraded this year.
  • The new M8 cars are exceeding performance expectations and are more reliable in winter weather than previous train cars.
  • Complaints have been cut by nearly 40% since 2014.
  • Development of an e-ticket app that will allow the purchase and use of train tickets on a smart phone for modern convenience.

I am excited to hear about the progress in mass transit that Metro-North is making. Many of us rely on the train to get back and forth from work and events, and I found President Giulietti’s report encouraging.
