Fasano, Witkos Statement re: Senate’s Delay in Voting on the UConn Contract

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) released the following statement regarding the UConn Professional Employees Association contract.

“The Senate needs to vote on the UConn contract now. Everyone seems to understand that this contract and the proposed raises create unrealistic fiscal burdens for our state and could lead to even more painful layoffs down the road. Our families, our students and our taxpayers simply cannot afford these increases. Governor Malloy, Senator Looney and Senator Duff have all joined the Republican leaders in clearly stating that this contract is unreasonable and should be voted down. Therefore, there’s no reason why we should not be in session now voting on this contract. This is a no-brainer!”

“The hesitancy to make this common sense decision makes us seriously question the Democrats’ ability to make even more impactful fiscal decisions down the road.”
