Hartford, CT – State Senator Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Energy and Technology Committee recently toured Plainfield Renewable Energy (PRE) to see how they use green power to create energy.

PRE produces 37.5MW of Class I electricity using cutting edge biomass gasification technology, which helps keep the plant emissions clean. The plant is located on a former Superfund site in Plainfield, Connecticut and began operations in December, 2013.

PRE was acquired by Greenleaf Power based in Sacramento, CA, this past summer. The plant uses more than 1000 tons per day of biomass wood – otherwise headed for landfills – to create clean energy. PRE also has 30 full time employees and contributes nearly 200 direct and indirect jobs to the area economy.
