Billing Scam

October 30, 2015

Eversource is alerting customers about a billing scam that is hitting our district.

Here’s how it works:

  • Callers claim to be from Eversource and threaten to shut off power in two hours unless immediate payment is made to them.
  • The scammers then direct victims to purchase prepaid debit cards at a specific location.

What can you do to protect yourself?

Customers can verify their account is in good standing by calling an Eversource representative at 1-800-286-2000.

Eversource said it never demands payment over the phone and does not require pre-paid debit cards.

The company also says employees rarely make unsolicited house visits.
