Sen. Fasano: “Today is about handing the public a megaphone”

September 16, 2015

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding the State Tax Panel’s public hearing held this evening at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

“I believe that it is important to hear from the public today. I want to thank everyone who came to Hartford to testify. This is a unique opportunity for the public to voice their opinions and ideas directly to a group of people tasked with closely reviewing our state’s overall tax structure,” said Fasano.

“It’s obvious that raising taxes year after year is not the solution to Connecticut’s financial troubles. The largest tax increase in state history four years ago did not solve our problems, nor will CT’s second largest tax increase passed this year. We are still facing out year deficits. We are still burdened with mounting long-term expenses and pension liabilities. Until we change the structure of how we tax, as well as how much we tax and what we spend, we’ll only continue further down a very dangerous road. People, businesses and communities need stability, and we need to reform across the board to get there.

“I, along with fellow lawmakers, will continue sharing my thoughts and ideas about Connecticut taxes throughout the legislative process. Today is about handing the public a megaphone, to make sure they are part of that conversation and their ideas are heard loud and clear.”
