Sen. Witkos: Malloy should heed his own words on state’s spending [Rep-Am]
August 25, 2015Waterbury Republican-American Letter
The Republican-American is right to sound the alarm about Connecticut’s upcoming budget “train wreck” (Aug. 8 editorial, “State budget: ‘balanced’?”).
Legislative Republicans have noted that the upcoming crash can be boiled down to one word: spending.
The Democratic-controlled legislature and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy have failed to abide by the state’s constitutional spending cap. They approved a budget that moves large chunks of spending out from under the cap.
Just six months ago, a high-ranking state official proclaimed that “we must balance our budget by living within our means and living within our spending cap.”
Those words were spoken by Gov. Malloy.
