Sen. Witkos Courant Letter: CCSU Should Terminate Professor

The Courant is right to question Central Connecticut State University for its lack of action regarding a professor who has had multiple run-ins with the law [Aug. 7, editorial, “Again, Mr. Shankar?”]

This year, I introduced a bill in the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee that would have allowed college officials to conduct background checks before promoting faculty and impose punishment for criminal conduct.

The bill, which had bipartisan support, stalled when it reached the Labor and Public Employees Committee.

CCSU should act in the best interests of students, faculty and taxpayers by terminating this professor’s employment.
