Sen. Henri Martin (second from left) joined with state legislators for a July 20 State Capitol press conference to express disappointment in the state legislature’s failure to override any of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s vetoes this year. A decision was made by Democratic leadership in the state legislature not to challenge the governor’s vetoes. “It’s disappointing,” Sen. Martin said. “We are supposed to be the people’s voice at the Capitol, but that voice was silenced today. I give credit to the many courageous Democrats who were willing to stand with Republicans to challenge the governor, but in the end, we didn’t have enough votes. I hope that in 2016, we can bring the focus back to doing what is best for state residents. Debates on important policies must be allowed to take place. That’s what we were elected to do.” Martin represents Bristol, Harwinton, Plainville, Plymouth, and Thomaston.
