Woodstock Student Essay Wins!
June 11, 2015Hartford, CT – State Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) joined the Rigney family from Woodstock, on Friday June 5th for an award ceremony at the Capitol in Hartford. Fiona Rigney a fourth grader at Woodstock Elementary School was honored for an essay she wrote about energy conservation tips. Rigney received an award from the Energize Connecticut fund.
In her essay the 9 year old wrote, You go to the doctor, take your home to the doctor too! Become your own energy efficiency doctor and go to energy.gov to learn how to conduct a do-it-yourself home energy audit.
She also suggests these tips:
- turning off the water when shaving or soaping up in the shower
- taping down the light switch in the refrigerator so it won’t go on all the time when you open the door
- buying a programmable thermostat to help reduce the amount of heat in our house when you are not there
